Best Weber Grills: 8 All-Time Fav’s Reviewed

There’s no question about it, the word barbecue and Weber go hand in and. And, with good reason too. Weber have been making top quality, dependable grills since 1952, the year that George Stephen invented the kettle grill. As the story goes, George was driven by his desire to cook the very best steaks for his family and friends. Inspired by his job at a metalworks company, he realized the rounded shape of a buoy would be perfect for grilling his steaks. So, he sliced the buoy in half, added three legs and some vents, and voila! The kettle grill was born, sparking a thousand imitations.

But, regardless of whether the legend is true, Stephen’s love of excellent steak and his innovative ethos are something we can all get on board with. These days, those principles permeate everything Weber produce. And, it’s probably these values, more than anything, that has led Weber to become the number one barbecue brand in the world. Weber now offer a broad range of grills and smokers. Whether you’re looking to barbecue on gas, charcoal, wood or electric, there’s a model to suit every wallet.

If choosing the right Weber for you is proving to be difficult due to their extensive range, we’ve rounded up the best of the best to make your choice a little easier. But, just remember, you can’t really go wrong with a Weber.

Weber Summit® Charcoal Grill 24" - Best Kamado

Weber’s take on the kamado has been a huge hit, and it’s clear to see why.

They’ve taken the classic kettle shape and reinvented it in the Summit Charcoal Grill made from dual-walled, porcelain coated steel. This means that not only is it lightweight and sturdy, it won’t crack like a traditional ceramic kamado, and, its insulation powers are second to none. A couple more merits of the double walls are that temperature adjustments can be made far more quickly, and your cook will not be as influenced by the ambient temperature. So, if you’re serious about grilling and precision is important to you, you might have met your match.

Getting dinner going is no longer a chore with the gas ignition. Just hit the switch and those coals will be glowing merrily in minutes. The charcoal grates are easily adjusted, depending on what you’re cooking. Raise towards your meat for an intense sear, or lower for an easy smoke. On that note, there is also a stainless-steel hinged diffuser plate that allows for indirect cooking at a low temperature.

With 464 square inches to cook on, your extended family will be expecting an invite. The Gourmet BBQ System is an awesome add-on that will allow you to cook anything from dessert to pizza thanks to the additional components.

And if all that wasn’t enough, Weber has just released an upgrade featuring a handy table, perfect for preparation, basting, keeping your seasonings handy, or holding your drink. This model also has the tool hooks and charcoal storage bin that will prove very popular mid-cook.

Jumbo Joe® Charcoal Grill 18" - Best Portable

Part of the joy of cooking outside is in the portability. If you’re always planning your next tailgate, camping trip or beach barbecue, this is the grill for you.

The Weber Jumbo Joe is only around 20 inches in height, width and length, meaning you can chuck it in the trunk, stick it in the corner of the camper, or stow it on a shelf in the garage and you’ll hardly notice it’s there.

That said, you’ve still got 240 inches to cook with, so you’ll fill hungry bellies with no stress.

But, what we really love about the Weber Jumbo Joe is it’s intuitive design. As a smaller version of the original Weber favorite, the kettle shape minimizes heat loss through to bottom of the unit, so you shouldn’t end up with scorched grass or burnt furniture. There’s a clever lid holder so you aren’t left trying to juggle a huge, hot hunk of metal (an essential for portable barbecues in our book). Once you’re done, the vents are airtight so that the flames extinguish quickly when you close them. The removable ash catcher means you won’t spend hours packing up and there’s a secure the lid with a lid lock for carrying so you’re good to go.

Simple, easy to use and space saving, the Jumbo Joe is a sure winner for anyone who wants to barbecue on the go.

Ranch Kettle Charcoal Grill 37" - Best Extra Large

If you’re wanting to get biblical with your cooking, the Ranch Kettle and its 1,100 inches of cooking space cannot fail to disappoint. This unit was designed with caterers in mind, but it will work perfectly for your family reunion, work picnic or annual get together.

If you’re really going all out, the cooking grate is even hinged so that you can add more coals mid-cook. The tuck-away lid is a great safety feature (because where would you put that beast), and the thermoplastic handles will remain cool to touch at all times.

The wheels are a step up from other Weber models, as they’d have to be to ensure you could move this beast around. The locking casters are sturdy, crack-proof and made to last.

Be warned, as you’d expect, this baby eats through charcoal like mad. But, the ash tray means it’s all swept away as soon as you’re finished. And, there’s no reason you couldn’t smoke with wood logs if you prefer. As with all Weber products, when you register the grill, you also get a cookbook, packed with plenty of inspiration to fill up all those grilling inches and earn the title of grill master.
